I think we should have a lottery based on the following:
How much do you think I've spent on my Cingular cell phone to make the following calls?
To daughter in Atlanta from Milan - left a voice message.
To daughter in California from Milan - talked with her for a few moments, during which the first daughter called and we conferenced together for about 90 seconds- Me in Milan, one in Atlanta and one in California.
Side bet - which time zone do you think the call will be registered in? Side, side bet - if it hadn't been Nights and Weekends in all time zones, which zone would have ruled?
To my daughters - one call each - for less than a minute - from airport in Tel Aviv.
From the sherut (shared taxi) while we were going through Netanya - to the hotel to make sure that our delay (see another blog about this) did not mean I was going to lose my room.
And - passed the phone to the Australians in front of me so they could do the same.
Again - the lottery can be on a per item basis and then on a total fee. When my cell phone bill comes in I'll let you know and then you can figure out if you want to rent a cell phone in the country within which you're travelling or just feed the cash straight to Cingular.
If you "win" the lottery you get to donate the $$ to the Rabbi's Mitzvah Fund!
P.S. Someone in the ladies room at the airport in Milan (yes, we had time to get acquainted waiting in line - especially since one of the three stalls went "sour" when a kid didn't know how to flush and some sensitive types refused to use it. Of course, you know who took care of that problem. Just needed a quick application of the foot to the floor pedal flusher - a couple of times - until the unit was back in operation and the needy female traveling public returned to full facility status.) Oh - yes, someone in the ladies room line at the airport in Milan said the she couldn't use her Verizon cell phone. Maybe that Cingular ad campaign was really true. More bars!
They do say that travel broadens one. Cell phones and foreign restrooms - what's next?

I was just about to go to bed and though that I'd take a quick look at your blog to see where you were. I'm glad that I did because it put GREAT BIG SMILES on mine and Gail's faces!! (there's a couple more exclamation points for ya. :-))
Great stuff, I think that I'm hooked and can't wait to read the next!! :-) I almost lost it with the foreign restroom adventure. LOL!!
Glad to see that you arrived Safely.
Until Next Time...

Hi Rabbi! Sounds like you are having adventures already in the airport! I was trying to guess what your cell phone bill would be but I think your bill will have several variables: 1. have you gone over your minutes? (I made this mistake last month somehow, whoops!) 2. do your daughters also have cingular and if so do you get free calls to other cingualar users? (I'm trying to convince everyone I know to switch to sprint to take advantage of the free sprint to sprint calling. So far I don't have any takers) and 3.was your phone in roaming? (does "roaming" even exist anymore by the way?)
Isn't technology fun?
happy travels,
Jessie:)
